"The chain of musical tradition is long and finely wrought. It is incumbent on each link to maintain its integrity under the pressure brought upon it by the changing conditions around it while remaining unique and distinct from those adjacent. It is my hope that the torch passed to me for the forging my own link will stay alight long enough for me to pass on and help forge the next. It is therefore my prerogative to become a sturdy link in the chain of tradition so that I may reinforce the integrity of an already formidable tradition."
